MAN TOLD ME PURPLE & 1 BLUE WERE IN
Crazy day-every day is so different. Left after 8-staying up too late watching tv while Armand is fast asleep. (like at home) No trouble getting out of Lompoc-cold-in 50’s-wind at our back. 101 to 1-wide bike lane-mts on each side-few black cows standing around-no farms. Gradual up hill-7 1/2% grade down hill for 2 miles-what a rush. Get to tunnel & rest stop-pull in. U-HOO-can’t believe it’s Jean & Lynn-give them a hug-went all day yesterday w/out seeing them. Can’t believe today-bike lane now smooth-going 20-24 mph because of wind. Get to Goleta by 12:00-stop at bike shop-put air into Armand’s tire. He doesn’t even check mine. Yesterday was the cemetery today is another 1st-McDonalds for lunch. I want to keep going to Santa Barbara-go out & get phone. Y-HOO-Y-HOO-see Jean & Lynn bike by to Motel 6. Armand calls Motel 6 in Santa Barbara-same price-we go on. Get on bike path all the way to Santa Barbara. Motel 6 ($87)-been paying $2.99 for wifi-they tell me it’s free to AARP members-no one ever told us. Best Motel 6 yet-but no room for bikes-they are sleeping outside. Ride bus down town & walk to warf-wind at our backs. Pass so many clothing stores & restaurants-very few people in any of them. Finally take 1st picture at warf-get buses back. Stop at 7-11 for dessert. Map rap w/Jean & watch tv. No rain in forecast-rain only lasted long enough for me to put on my jacket twice today & then quit.
57 MILES 12.5 MPH (4-36.5 MPH) 4 HRS 30 MIN BIKING TIME (high of 62-winds 14-21 mph)

1ST DAY NEVER TOOK A PHOTO

BUS RIDE & WALK TO GET HERE

7-11 NIGHT SNACKS AS A REWARD
7:30 Jean & Lynn gone-they need coffee to start. Climbs to get out-what’s new. Took back rds & rds parallel to 1-scenic w/little traffic. Wind at our back. Going to be longer day-stop at 7-11 for burrito & mk-not a place you can thank heaven for. Went around mt to Guadalupe-farm lands-agriculture at its best. Went through town-ended up at cemetery to eat snacks on grass-sat behind wall to get out of wind. On 1-little traffic-did have trucks loaded w/fruit. Saw vineyards-some covered-lots of plastic. Sign says Vandenberg AFB 10 m/Lompoc 15 m-Jennifer worked at Vandenberg AFB & they lived in Lompoc. We don’t take that exit-go another couple of miles to Purisima Hill (1,000 ft climb) to Lompoc. Rd is grated at bottom & top (ready to be resurfaced)-difficult to bike over. Long down hill-wind almost knocks me into car lane. Sugar & Tiger have problems staying on Lompoc sign for picture. Motel 6 ($60)-nicest one so far. Walk to Applebees for dinner-wanted steak tonight. Took a shortcut back-no outlet sign. Didn’t stop us-stood on old grocery cart-climbed on top of wall-threw our dessert over wall. Then dropped down into some thorny bushes-it would hard to explain if I broke my ankle in the fall. Suppose to rain tomorrow. Was really COLD today-50’s to start-maybe got to high 60’s.
