DAY 5 (10/6-FRI) CLINTON to ERICK, OK 58 BIKING 6 M in back of pick up

Armamd had heat exhaustion again-will update later.

OCT 11 (WED) AUSTIN, TX   NOW FOR THE REST OF THE STORY.               DAY 5 CLINTON to ERICK, OK  58 M, 8.9 MPH, 6 HRS 30 MIN BTIME-8:00 to 5:15PM.  Today was a terrible biking day-talked about quitting for 1st time.  Rd runs along hiwy most of time-very little traffic-BUT WIND CAN KILL YOU.  Not many inclines-can only do 6 mph-very hot (95)-no shade-at end stopping every time we see a tree. Armand bonks-no energy-6 m to go-he has a flat. Stand there & look at tire. OK deputy just happens to come by at that exact time. Everything OK? Just a flat tire-he could have driven off but he pulls over. Sees Armand (dizzy) wants to call ambulance-can be here in 2 min. NO-NO-I’M ALRIGHT. A white pick up truck pulls over to left-stops in grassy area-no shoulders on rd. Deputy goes over-asks if they can take us into town. They load our bikes in back w/bags of cattle feed & groceries. Then help us in back too-now sitting in back of truck on tool box-deputy is following behind. NO WAY WE COULD HAVE BIKED 6 MILES TO MOTEL. Dollie & Jeff did not have to stop & help-but they did. DOLLIE is a dog & cow rescue angel-has driven as far away as FL to rescue a dog. Tell her about my sister Nancy in Dallas who rescued Sugar who was being used as a bait dog. Only had $40 to give her-said it was a blessing-could now save another dog. I feel that GOD works in mysterious ways & feel truly blessed. That was Armand’s 1st flat on trip, deputy just happens to come by-Dollie & Jeff just happened to stop. She showed me pictures of her animals-we hugged & felt an instant bond. After the tragedy in Las Vegas-we don’t hear about all the helpful & wonderful people there are in this world. Jean at motel-go eat pizza-tell her we’re not going on. May have to go to Amarillo to find rental car.  Go to sleep-tomorrow another day.

Day 4 10/5 EL RENO to CLINTON, OK 74 M (my age + 3)

DAY 4  10/5 (THURS) EL RENO to CLINTON, OK  74 M, 10.4 MPH, 7:30-5:00 (7 hrs biking time). Thurs is my bowling day-instead I’m biking my age. Jean biked 60 m -didn’t get lost. Where to start-lost in 1st 3 m-call Jean-wrong turn again-eat pancakes in Geary (place not on map). Trucker says we can go to next street & get back on route & not go back-extra 12 m-not bad in a truck. Not doing well-think about Tera running marathon-can’t complain-she ran 2-helps me for 50 m. Be positive-cool, overcast, good rds most of time, not much traffic. Now raining-bottom of my bags split-use rest of duck tape & Armands rain bags to hold stuff in. Get to Super 8-$49-fantastic. Tanya checks us on- it’s her b-day-she even washes, dries, folds our clothes when we ask about laundry mat. We have 4 pillows-soft towels. Last night we had 1 towel-night before both towels were full of holes-rooms were clean. Met Charlene at Mexican rest next door. Told our story-said she would like to take a bike tour. If she can leave her cows. Jean told Armand doesn’t think I’m having fun yet. Tomorrow is another day. More rain & windy.

DAY 3 (10/4) EDMOND to EL RENO, OK 45 MILES

10/4 (Wed) EDMOND to EL RENO, OK  45 MILES, 10.MPH, 4:12 min biking time-6:30 to 1:30  Budget Inn  $63

He looks out door at 6:00 am-Is it raining? No-get up & pack. Couldn”t move last night-ready now. 6:30-Knock on Jean’s door -still in bed. We leave in the dark-hope no one hits me.  Make it to lake-Jean found other rt so not to go through Oklahoma City. Go too far-now drizzling-now rain. Stop at 7/11-ask directions-one says turn left-other rt. What are the odds-get to light-see Jean coming from other direction. Said she never leaves on dark-left at 7:30-has smart phone-doesn’t get lost. Sees a McD-leaves us.  Now heavy rain-thunder-lightning-shoulder-no shoulder-heavy traffic-18 wheelers-pooling water-getting sprayed by cars passing-NOT HAVING FUN😯😯 Get to gas station-call Jean-we want to stop. Dumpy Ranger motel full-go to Shariff’s staion-no one home. Budget Motel down street-have couple of rooms. Call Jean-she wants one. Bath-nap-wait for Jean. Rain stops-go to Sonic across street. Armand orders french fries & onion rings-worse meal ever but ate it.  Play tennis on Wed in Austin-was rained out.  Tomorrow another day.
