Tiger & Sugar hanging out

Lopez Island/Shark Reef

Birthday Golf
Got up at 8:00, cool & foggy. Watch Leave It To Beaver & Daniel Boone while getting ready-watched Columbo last night. Bike to ferry-5 m-there 1 hr early-could have watched Perry Mason–my all time favorite show growing up. Armand wants to wait till Anacortes for bkft–order hot chocolate & big muffin–don’t want to share so he decides to eat know too. Foggy on ferry so take nap–benches are like little beds. Bike to Anacortes-on to Deception Pass again–long uphills but at least going 5 mph. Decide to walk across bridge this time-leader wanted to ride side by side slowing down traffic-didn’t want to get run over by 18 wheeler. Stop at fruit stand w/big elephant statue–animal reminds Armand of ME!!! Pick up peach–see ice cream cones-look better & was delicious–put peach on bike. Back at Acorn Motor Inn in same room-$74. Get my NAILS done while Armand does the wash. Lynn & Jean are here–they have a 2 bedroom w/kitchen & living room for $69–unbelievable how nice it is. Jean is another of the cross country 2002 bikers. Her claim to fame is that she has biked in 46 states & covered over 100,000 miles touring. She started at 36 & is now 63. We tagged along last yr on her European trip & 2 yrs ago on her St. Louis-Minite, ND, Minneapolis-Madison-St. Louis trip. Both Jean & Lynn have nice short hair cuts-go across street & get all my hair cut off. Eat at Thai Restaurant beside hair place. They’re leaving around 6:30 AM–we will NOT. Suppose to meet Armand’s brother tomorrow night.
What a wonderful day!! Up at 8:00-for my b-day present wanted pictures down loaded-ask Armand to pick some for blog–so impressed w/his captions. Biked to golf course-stop to take off some clothes–warmest day so far. Armand checks ferry schedule–leaves at either 12:05 or 12:25–it’s 9:30. I want to play golf for my b-day-this was also the place where I almost aborted our trip over a missing clip. $120 later have clubs, tees, & 12 golf balls (were 12 for $10) & pull carts–our bike shoes are also golf shoes. 1st ball he hits is in the rd–I don’t do much better. Leader loses 2 more balls on hole #2–at this rate we will be out of balls before we finish 9 holes. No one on course–just like we had the lake to ourselves yesterday in canoe–did a little better-especially my drive on the LAST hole. Too bad we can’t play again-time to bike to ferry. Much easier now-have time to buy 2 L-fat chocolate milks, chicken enchiladas (warm up in store microwave) & chocolate chip cookie for my b-day. Another nice ferry ride. Planning to bike 35 m around island & leave-ask couple we meet if they are staying on LOPEZ. They tell us Lopez Lodge-5 m later we see it-Armand checks vacancy & price-1 room left-$80-we take it. Nicest room so far-upstairs-w/balcony-view of lake–b-day is getting better. Suppose to be 35 m ride around island & it’s suppose to be the “flattest”–nothing is FLAT in San Juan. Stop at Shark Reef Shore–little girl is all excited to tell us she saw a hundred sea lions. Hike (bike shoes are also hiking shoes)-1/4 m on tree shaded, dirt path to sea-sit on rock & watch sea lions basking on rocks in the sun. When we finally leave I realize I/M TIRED & DON’T WANT TO BIKE ANYMORE. Leader says I will have to bike back to motel–OK-long downhill–I race by leader at 39 mph–that was FUN without the curves. Get cleaned up-dinner at café next to lodge. Sun is still shinning on lake. This is the most laid back of the islands. A perfect day with my perfect partner.

Armand would only take a photo after he fed me one cookie.

Armand put me in jail when I wouldn’t follow him to the end of the earth.

I am taking these two for a ride of their lives.
